Make props or buy them?

I'm just curious. I've hardly done any arch vis professionally (when I did it was in the days before GI and such).... but when making a portfolio, what are people's thoughts about making props (furniture, lamps, table wear) vs buying them in?

Would you generally make everything from scratch except the odd plant? Or is it about slowly acquiring a collection of bought pieces, or maybe slowly building up your own library of made pieces?

Many thanks.

Evermotion archmodels is my main provider, I get everything from them. I can make a building in a very short time but waste a lot of time modeling furniture so I would lose money if I made my on furniture.

Plus when I use evermotion I don't get an ex-employer breathing down my neck when I use props I made when I was employed.

I believe in mixture. I make almost everything by myself...that is frankly because of money :- ).

But sometimes I play with idea to buy few (just the most used necessities like sofas and chairs) really high-end props from those like Bertrand Benoit. It is possible I would never even reach the quality of those objects and I would use them often. Then I would justify buying them.
