Devin Johnston
I'm working on an animation and I want my lights to have a bloom effect, I've already tried using the Vray Lens Effect but it produces a lot of fireflies in my scene and won't work. I know this can be done in post but I've never done it and don't know the procedures, can someone point me to a tutorial or give me some advice. I have adobe after effects and premiere so compositing shouldn't be a problem. Thanks

Crazy Homeless Guy
Hi Maxer. You could try adding a VraySpecular to the render pass. Then set it to a "Add" layer transfer mode in AE then apple a Gaussian blur or glow effect. You may need to set the VraySpecular element to a multiplier of 2 or 3 in the render elements dialog in order to get it to really show up. I have only done it this way once with the VraySpecular pass once. More often I will duplicate the beauty layer in AE and add a glow effect to that layer. Then adjust the settings so only the lights are blooming at the intensity you want. To control the effect this way you would need to add garbage masks that track with the footage. Fooch
If its setup to be lights in vary, it should turn up under vrayselfillum in your render pass. U can use that as an add or Colour dodge under the blend mode. Gaussian/fast blur it a lil. And try glow. I normally luma matte a solid layer w a ramp on it. (cutting out the bottom of the frame and leaving the top lights for ceiling) Another way if plugin budget is permitted , is to use magic bullet looks. Adjustment layer w diffusion in looks. Then luma matte the solid layer w a ramp gradient. Or fast garbage masks on it.
