Vray Glass

I'm having a bit of trouble controlling the reflections in my vray glass in 3ds max. The reflection of the HDRI sky seem to appear much lighter than the hdri looks in the background. In reality when the sky is reflected in glass (or water for that matter) it appears darker. I wondered if anyone had a good default architectural glass mat or settings which I could have a look at.

Ive attached two images. One showing my glass reflection of a sky really burnt out and another showing a reflected sky which is darker in the reflection.

Many thanks in advance

Don't forget that depending on where the sun is coming from it may be that the area of sky seen in the reflection is in fact several times brighter than what is directly in front of the camera. For what it's worth your glass seems ok to me, but there are a couple of ways you could change the result you're getting. Firstly you could reduce the amount of reflection in your glass material. The second way is to make two versions of your HDRI with different output levels. One for background and the other in your reflection override slot with reduced intensity.

I also think our glass reflections look pretty good. The few things to play with are 1) make sure you are using a black color in the diffuse instead of white and 2) you could use a fog color of a dark blue/green. set the multiplier low like 0.02 or 0.03 and then see how your image looks. You can boost the reflection by 3) overriding your fresnel IOR to 2.2 and that might help, but usually this isn''t necessary.

First of all stef.thomas is right about the exposure here, there is nothing wrong with your reflection as you posted 2 different lightning situations and you trying to achieve one from another.

I bet it would look wonderful (reflections) if you put a line of curtains along the windows, but to bright up the interior just try to add some interior lights. If you're trying to show interior in that shot more exposed.
