slow performances

Hi all,

We recently made the upgrade from max3.1 to max6, but we are suffering hard usuability problems... In the past (it must be some kind of pre-history for most of you...) we could very easily render in the background while working when we put the rendering on 'low priority' in XP. Almost all system sources where used for the main application and max was put to almost zero when performing though tasks... If this was not enough, clicking the 'pause' on the rendering gave more speed to the main application.... ,)

BUT...

With max6, putting max to low priority does not change much. The machine keeps boosting for max, slowing down the main applications. Even when putting a render on 'pause' the machine keeps working in the background. This is very annoying because it's slowing down process A LOT!

On top of this, I find max6 very very slow to work with (even with the Nvidia Quadro 500fx and the Maxtreme driver). Selecting a few objects really takes a lot of time...

The comps are 3.2Ghz, 2Mb ram,...

Anyone knows how to solve these problems???

Nisus,

try setting the processor affinity to just 1 CPU.

---

On the Processes tab, right-click the process you want to assign, click Set Affinity, and then click one or more processors.

Note

•The Set Affinity command is available only on multiprocessor computers.

•Using the Set Affinity command limits the execution of the program or process to the selected processors and might decrease overall performance.
