problems with fryrender and 3ds Max 2011 / Maya 2010

I have some problems with the Fryrender - 3ds Max 2011 Plugin. I installed Fryrender 1.5 and i installed the Plugin. If i set up a simple scene (Cube, Camera) and render the scene with Fryrender i get some error messages:

error: Could not create output folders
error: unable to create scene file
Done! - 2 error(s), 0 warning(s)
-- Export FAILED

In Maya 2010 the plugin is able to export the scene to fryrender but in fryrender i get that error message:

Could not load the document

And another time i get that error message (the scene was not exported):

error: Could not create output folders
-- Export FAILED

Another problem, not with fryrender but with Arion 1.0:

- If i change the render size to a higher resolution, Arion crashes

- How can i assign fryrender materials (glass, sss) to objects in the scene?

- are there some tutorials for Arion / Fryrender? I do not find anything useful.

Thanks for reading this text, i hope you can help me.

make sure that the output folder you set in your rendersettings is writable by you (both for .rcs file and for a possible .dsi or rgb that you might have set)

Also make sure you are using the latest plugin versions for 3dsMax and Maya (not the new beta versions, they won't work with your fryrender/arion versions!)

When Arion crashes on higher resolutions, you might need a bigger videocard (more memory) or you should upgrade to Arion 1.6.1. (Note: when you work with Arion 1.6.1, you will need the new beta drivers, which work fine, but you won't be able to render with fryrender 1.5 anymore, at least not until fryrender 1.6 is released!)

Assigning fryrender materials to you scene in 3dsMax or Maya works just like every other material, just make a new material, type Fryrender/Arion material (in 3dsMax in your Standard rollout), click the edit button in the material, and use the fry-editor to change the material into what you want.

There is quite some info on both programs on the randomcontrol website and wiki:

Hi,

Fryrender cannot create folders that don't exist, so make sure that the folder you wish to write your scene to exists and that you have privileges to read/write to them.

As for the limits of your available VRAM, it depends on how much VRAM your scene takes to load and then how much will be required by the frame buffer. You can monitor this by enabling the Devices tag at the bottom of the Explorer window. The icon is a little clock with the letters DEV.
