Dual Monitor HP LP2475w config, Brightness and backlighting difference

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've bought a HP LP2475w one year ago. Then I decided to buy a second one in order to have the same display performance and to avoid color difference and the like.

But I have the poblem that, there is certainly a visible difference in color and brightness between the 2 monitors. Strange and most of all disappointing. The newest monitor is way more bright and backlighted than the other. It's annoying, especially when I have a black screen, where we clearly see a strong and disappointing backlighting resulting in "ghost" or "grey look. The first one has nice black levels.

There are also difference in colors.

I'm using display port cables, and switching between them didn't improve the situation.

Is it normal?

Did they change their technology in this built? (it was built recently in sept 2011, while the first is one year older)

And will a color calibrator such as the xrite i1 display (that I ordered) solve this issue?

Thank you for answering

I have the same problem, I own two Dell Ultrasharps 24", so basicly the best they offer, but one is year older than the other, an although both are IPS, like yours, they're not the same ! Pretty frustrating for such a goddamn high price.

I don't know anything about professional color calibrating, seems daunting to me as I have bad eye for color already :- D so I look forward whether you'll solve this. Maybe asking on professional photography forums ?

After searching on the web, I think the problem I experience is "backlight bleeding". It is much stronger on the newer model, along with cooler colors that also affect (the brightness) on a black screen.

I don't know how to reduce backlighting, reducing brightness helps a little but doesn't remove the "ghost" effect caused by the bleeding.

Any experienced person's advice appreciated
