Chris62
Can I used the saved Irradiance map and Light cache maps from low rez renders (640x480) and apply them to a high rez render at 18" x 24" . The 18x24 file from the print wizard is 7200 x 5400 pixels. I am using a render service to render out 18"x24" 300 dpi posters since I cant do them on my 100 year old Timex machine. Just hoping to speed up render times to reduce cost. Max 9 w/ Vray 1.5. Thanks
RyderSK
Sure, but 640x480 seems a bit too low for such a high final render.
Chris62
Hi Juraj, And thanks... I guess I didnt word it correctly. Yes I realize 640x480 is low rez...that was for test only. I cant render out much past 5000 x 2500 wide (at 72dpi) on my 5 yr old machine. I wanted to use the saved maps from the low rez render, and apply them to the high rez render. RyderSK
No you worded it correctly, and I understood it right :- ). My answer though, sounds ambigious :- ) What I meant, 640 is too low for saved prepass if your final is gonna be 7200 px. I would render out 1/4 atleast, which would be 1800px x 1200 px, and use that. It's the IR details that you gonna loose if you go too low.
Chris62
Oh sorry my bad... Ah I see...so get as close as I can to the full size for the saved maps.
RyderSK
Well 1/4 is fine. 1/2 would provide you with suberb quality since 7200px wide is so big that those details won't even be visible at printed anyway. Who ever came up with 300 DPI was a crazy person. People can't tell in reality.
Chris62
maybe 150 dpi then?
RyderSK
maybe 150 dpi then? If it isn't your client request (it's one of those dumb request they love to make while having no idea why), I would never make such big render. 150 to 200 ppi is perfectly sharp printed picture. Tommy L
The question disregards that the IRmap optimization settings also scale the IRmap down at low settings during calculation. But yes, you can scale IRmaps as long as the aspect ratio is the same.
