wendzina
Why is it, whenever I apply a displacement modifier, all it does is move the planes of an object, rather than pushing and pulling geometry based on a displacement map jpg? See below I have searched and found nothing :/ Help!
RyderSK
Now that is weird...does the bump map have same mapping as the house has ?
wendzina
Yes, the map is identical. I'm sat editing the bump map in photoshop as we speak to make a more specific displacement map.... I can't imagine it fixing anything though. Might it be the geometry? The wall in question was originally made in sketchup and is an import. Dave Buckley
i've started to unwrap walls that I'm displacing these days. I find that a quick unfold mapping with normalize clusters unticked normally does the trick in terms of mapping, then add a smooth modifier with 'auto' ticked, followed by your vray displacement - i've not had any problems since doing that

I remade the material and now it seems to be okay...ish. The problem is gone...but now, look at the image, the displacement causes really random wobbly lines?! And the two wall faces don't seem to align, despite using a UVW map. Any ideas?
Nic H
if you are using dirty dirty dirty sketchup geometry you need to weld those verts! then use 3d mapping - if it starts to break too much you can always put a tiny shift with negative values to reign it in a little
