Peter M. Gruhn
Putting together a new machine. Tweaked a 3dats Amazon list and pressed the buy button. My Windows 7 arrived today and it has all sorts of writing on it about being for OEMs and needing to be installed with the OPK and all sorts of stuff. Can I just open this up and install Windows? Am I going to have an annoying time with this "System Builder" version? Should I just go get an upgrade pack at the store? - gruhn
Tommy L
You'll be fine. All my (10) windows licenses are OEM. Theyve mostly been installed multiple times, its no different to regular version.
AJLynn
Yes, you have the right packaging of Windows. Not sure exactly what they're doing with that language, but even in the good old days when they sold "OEM" packaged software, the deal with that was that the vendor could only sell it to you if you bought a motherboard, CPU or had drive in the same order. Tommy L
oh, the only thing you'll lack is support from Microsoft. Whenever you call for any kind of support they ask your license number, if its OEM they hang up.
Nic H
LOL at buying windows! If you pay money - you should get support.
Peter M. Gruhn
Thanks for the replies. I'll not worry then. Most of the parts have arrived and I'm pretty darned impressed with them. (Bear in mind, I've not really dealt with hardware in a very long time. Still, these seem to be nice parts. Props to AJ.) Now all I have to do is wait... and wait... for the proc. Oh, and buy a cooler for it.
