Has anyone used shag hair?

Hi everyone, I just had a question for all of the cg artists in here. Has any one used shag hair, or shag fur for grass? I downloaded the free 15 day trial and looked for some tutorials for it. I followed two tutorials and it came out ok. I guess the issue is:

 

a. does it work with radiosity

b. is it worth the price

c. is there something better out there for making grass (besides vray)

 

I just wanted your opions. I have tried almost everything I can think of, procedural grass, scatter splines, noise/disturb, and all of them together. The scatter spline technique is nice but I can't get it to look right with radiosity.

I've used shag hair for grass and it comes out really good once you learn how to use it. I'm not sure if it works with radiosity or not, I would probably assume it would since its more of a major plug-in for max, but I could be wrong.

Like I said, its free so its not as powerfull as Shag but for basic grass it can look just as good.

Hi Kemal, if you go to the digimation website, they do have tutorials there to do hair. Just use the basics they show to develop the grass. It is all in the length, and random controls.

As far as learning shag fur for grass, there are tons of tutorials out there. Find one and learn it. It's the best way. There should even be one on the digimation website. Why not try searching these forums also? I'm sure somebody posted a way how to do it.
