Crazy Homeless Guy
interesting. the first image has some housing off tot he right, but other than that, it is a planned city built in 10 years. i wonder what the enviroment of the city is like. is the office space filled? 10 years is a short period of time to build all of that, much less make it a fully functional city. typically cities go through several stages of building and tearing down. starting off with small buildings, and building into towers over the course of decades, not 1 decade. i think it might lack a lot of the characters that make great cities great. William Alexander
The real question is the economic development. Driving force and how long can this type of growth be sustained? The growth seems like that of LasVagas in the US a desert climate also. The economics are obvious there. The infastructure is constantly in catch-up mode and the growth is exponential, how long can that actually last before either the econmics tank or the infastructure can't support the growth. Starting pay for Police, Fire Corrections is 40%-50% abovr national average for example. Now comapre Fire Fighters starting at around 23k in NewYork and somewhere around 42k in Vegas. I see some potential problems another ten years out with the bubble growth of the 90's. No extreme growth, high infastructure costs equals high taxes and results could be rough. Classic Urban planning / or lack of, example yet to be written. Dubai, seems to be more organized and oriented towards stable economic growth. It will be interesting to see how these boom cities develop in the next ten years and how they deal with a down turn. WDA
