3DS Max Design 2012 flips out on high quality renders...

Okay, this has been happening for AWHILE now and I don't know it's a Windows 7 thing or what.

When I render a CPU intensive image and I try to go another application or cancel a render, my computer starts to flip out and 3DS Max starts flipping through different screens and the render screen will show up....the main screen will show up....the material editor will show...it starts to cycle through all the screeens and my computer is frozen. I either have to wait for the render to finish, or I have to shut down 3DS Max.

Anyone else have this issue? I think it started when I updated to one of the service packs...in any case, this is quite irritating.

you don;t say how much memory you have i would not have two programs opening at the same time some like your CPU it over doing itself i would stop using max then close it down then open the other program.

if you're export max to another then i would first make the export file then once done close max and open the other 3d program.

if you don't then you mite completely crash windows OS i would also buy more memory if you;re mother has enough slots or buy a new motherboard 4 slots

I regularly have multiple programs open at once. Image browser, multi-tab web browser, photoshop, google earth, chat client (light telnet sort of thing), notepad, maybe excel, ftp client, a different multi-tabbed web browser, two or three explorer windows...

Or I'll shut some of the larger stuff down and if the render looks to take some time, I might play a game. Depends on the game and system though as sometimes the game and max conflict over the 3d display unpleasantly.

I have a BoXX Desktop with 12 gigs of RAM. It's a workhouse and has never let me down. I have never had this issue until I updated 2012 with the service packs and hotfixes. I don't know after which one it started to do this, but it's a pain. I have to shut it down and restart a rendering. Perhaps it's conflicting with another background program? I dunno...it's frustrating and it just happened a few minutes ago and I looked up the issue again to see if there is anything on it....

Yes, I had the same issues with 2012. If you have your task manager open you'll also notice all those windows show up in the applications tab as 'not responding', and it will cycle through them all. Not sure why?

I'm using dual xeon 6C processors with 24GB RAM, performance specs not the issue. I've had the tech's at 2 seperate companies review my system and log files and neither could find a single fault.

Since my upgrade to 2013 all the problems I had with 2012 (there were many!) are all gone.
