Ky Lane
Hi guys, Time to upgrade my old Dell quad-core workstation after many years of solid service. Local supplier is offering the (roughly) same price on systems with the Intel i7 2600K Extreme or AMD FX-8150 Extreme setups... Just wondering what people would recommend I go for? Any advice appreciated! Cheers.

Superkames
please describe "disappointing" coz im going to get that bulldozer soon. =] You can search as many reviews as you can , as least you can look as the conclusion.... For example : Anantech let us choose Cpus to compare : http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=287 Please pay attention to the note: "lower is better" or "higher is better" . I'm an AMD fan but I must said "I'm disappointing" PS : Cinebench R11.5 , tested by myself . Umesh Raut
Dear pals, Though I may not be adding too much to what has already been said, let me emphasize a couple points; first Anandtech has been THE site for many years for me too (like countless others out there) and have been building my own machines for over a decade now (all after the first Pentium, were AMD). I have always always been fan of AMD but only till now, since the price performance ratio has been thrown out of the window by the newer core i7s. The second most important point being that AMD is (sort of) pulling itself out of this desktop CPU business (http://www.anandtech.com/show/5498/what-amd-views-as-important-tablets-servers-notebooks-gpus) so, no point putting your money there. By the way, Vu Thanh's cinebench image shows 8c/8t for the bulldozer - is it really that? no multithread? oh no!! more disappointment...
AJLynn
Yeah, I was hoping for a bit more out of an 8-core CPU. Since Sandy Bridge CPUs came out it's been hard to find an AMD CPU to recommend. They did have a lock on the midrange market for a while when their 6-core CPUs were better than anything Intel had for the same money.
