frog_a_lot
I keep getting sent Microstation DGN files from a client and can't get them into Max. If i save as DXF everything just goes jumbled. The MicroStation File is fine but in anything else i lose curves etc. Anyone have an super special ways to get DGN into max
Sketchrender
If you have autocad 2012 you can open it and resave. If not send them on to me and I will resave them. What max are you using ? Philip@sketchrender.com I will be in work in an hour or so.
frog_a_lot
Using Max 2011. Thanks for offer, i ended up remodelling a chunk of it so ill be fine for now. I might have a look into AutoCad 2012 because i have a bunch more work coming in DGN format. how does AutoCad deal with the curves out of microstation? These have been my main problems so far while trying to import into max etc
Justin Hunt
you could also ask the client to send dwg's saved out of microstation. jhv
frog_a_lot
you could also ask the client to send dwg's saved out of microstation. jhv He tried and it basically turned every curve into a straight line. not very useful. Also didnt creat meshes. Pretty much everything was just splines
Sketchrender
The setting for curves are in the max import panel on the right. Interpolation of curves it is set to 15 as a standard. Up it and see. Scott Dombrowski
Also, check that the linework is not far from the origin. When you get really far from the origin, Max's accuracy decreases and that may show up as jumbled linework.
NoodleLuff
I've had this problems loads of times when importing CAD models. I usually do something along the lines of what the other guys are saying, but if it really needs to be smooth, I export as .SAT then bring that into max. matthewgriswold
Try: Microstation -> SketchUp Format -> import to 3ds Max. I ran into this problem some time ago, tried every format possible, but (the VERY LAST format I tried) SketchUp ended up being the ticket.
