Michael J. Brown
As long as I've been using 3dsMax, you'd think I'd be able to figure this one out on my own, but... On my Max setup at work I'm able to (while in wireframe mode in the top viewport) click directly on the linework of an object to select it. But, on my home system, if I try this same maneuver other objects end up getting selected first, i.e., my ceiling plain or my floor plain, but not my table or couch. My object selection is behaving as if I were in Solid Shaded mode (selecting objects by faces) instead of Wireframe (selecting by edge). Can anyone help me find how to get this selection method changed back to normal? Thanks.
Boris Horosavin
Hm, very strange, haven't seen that one before. And I also don't remember anything in viewport options (I suppose you work in wireframe). Of course, until you find a solution you can try using Scene explorere to select objects. I use it often when I work with complex and dent composed scene.
Michael J. Brown
Found it. My "Auto Window/Crossing by Direction" box (under the Scene Selection category of the General tab in Preference Settings) was not checked. Correction: That's not it after all. It seemed to have fixed it at first. But the more I play around with trying to select items (specifically furniture and other stuff that is positioned underneath gyp ceiling clouds and soffits) the more I keep getting improper selections of the clouds instead of the furniture.
