Sketchrender
Has anybody read any major improvements for the arc viz industry? Mental ray is all I am seeing and as I am a vray user that's no news to me. Phil

datacrasher
It's easy autodesk keep releasing 3ds max and other upgrades without doing proper test on them. the amount of bugs the newer verison have they have not got that sorted yet. Autodesk should stop releasing them until they sort out the last ones ('s) i know autodesk is a company but blo*** hell the way the economy is no-one is gonna buy them IMO Edited March 7, 2012 by datacrasher
Devin Johnston
This happens every year Autodesk comes out with a new release, I have this debate with myself over whether I want to exchange the problems I have for a whole bunch of new ones. I end up waiting until Autodesk comes out with their first service pack before putting it into production and I don't see this year being any different. It makes me wish for the good old days where they didn't have a new version every year and instead concentrated on fixing existing problems. This all started when they began selling their subscriptions, they had to justify that expense somehow and the result is we get a buggy piece of software every year instead of a good update that fixes and improves what we already have. Tommy L
Having a live 2 way link to Aftereffects for camera controllers and dummies is a big deal for me. C4D has had that for ages. Thats the only update Ive heard about, Ill be doing some reading and probably purchasing. Might even finally get on subscription.
Sketchrender
Do you use after effects that much for arc viz work? It's another €800 for after effects. Can I also ask, is here any word on vray having an update for the. New max. Can't seem to be able to post a new post on vray forum even though I am a member. John Dollus
Philip, Chaos has been involved with the active beta so you can expect to see a 2013 update sooner with fewer integration problems than previous releases.

Scott Schroeder
Would it be possible to use 2012 vray 2.0 build with max 2013? No. Autodesk has stated repeatedly that any plug-in for 2012, which includes Vray, will not be compatible with 2013 as they have completely overhauled the SDK. However, I'm pretty sure the 2013 version of Vray will be ready for launch as will most other major plug-ins. From the Blog Link posted above, this is a direct quote: Plug-in Compatibility Unfortunately, you can’t use 2012 plug-ins with 3ds Max 2013. The SDK is different from prior releases due to the move to Unicode (finally) in this release. This is an example of a massive sw engineering project we had to undertake to deal with legacy code. This was by far, the largest investment in touching all the code in 3ds Max since 64b. Unfortunately, most of you don’t care that we’re now Unicode, but it will make life a lot easier for everyone working with 3ds Max on a foreign OS or are using one of the 5 language versions 3ds Max comes in and are trying to share data. Don't forget, you still have a "save as 2010" feature in this release to maintain data compatibility with older pipelines.
