unwanted wall reflections

Hi there!

I have some trouble with my wall material settings and / or light settings, as i'm getting some annoying reflections at intersections between exterior walls ( please check the pic ).

The material is a simple diffuse map + a bump map, with all the reflection settings dialed down to 0. The light is a basic vraysun with the "affect specular " setting turned off.

I guess there is a simple solution to my problem, but i am not too skilled in max and i'm only familiar with the basic settings .

Thanx a lot!

I think that is not reflection but an overbright burn you got there. like those you get on photography with incorrect settings. You should ether tweak your Vray camera (shutter speed etc.) or move from Linear color mapping to something else, like HSV exponential or whatever suits your needs. Also, under color mapping settings you could check Clamp output option. After that you should be able to turn back on your materials and speculars because they are vital part of render. Hope some of this helps.

@ boros horosavin,

i always use shutter speed and iso around their standard values ( 200 / 100 ), but no mather how drastically i modify those values ( even to the point where the picture becomes too dark ) this high intensity ligh- burn like effect in wall intersections persists ( although less visible ) . It's not even detected by solidrocks as a burn. I use color mapping with rheinhard. Don't know what the clamp command does, though.

@ aubrey millard, are you saying that if the stair geometry is penetrating a little bit into the body of the wall, it may produce that effect ? i think that indeed, that is sometimes the case with my models as they are exports from allplan. i will try to remedy that.

Reinhard is cool, but you should limit it's burn value to something between 0,4-0,55, not more in my opinion, because it could create massive overbright. Also, try tweaking clamp output/subpixel color mapping options to see if it helps.

For some reason entire lighting seems very intensive for me, it simply doesn't feel as if you left your sun value on default (1) if you're using typical Vray camera settings. Therefore, you could check one more thing: sometimes, for a reasons unknown to me, Vray sun tends to duplicate itself. In other words you might have two or more Vray suns overlaping, causing this intensive lighting. Check for that too, because it happened to me more than once.

Good luck
