pablo scapi
Hello: I currently have this setup. Mobo: Asus P6T deluxe V2 CPU: i7 920 Ram: 12GB pc3 12800 (Mushkin blackline) VCard: ATI Radeon 5870 HDD (system): SSD intel 80 GB HDD: 4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 750GB Since the begining i had problems with my machine allways seeing the 12gb of RAM, sometimes it will only see 8Gb. I couldn't find the solution for this problem so i figured it was the memory. Now due the low price of RAM i was thinking on going for a pack of 3x4gb G.Skilli or corsair. The question is, if i purchase this new memory with the same speed and latencies than my actual, could i place the new 3x4gb and use also 3 of my actual 3x2gb for a total of 18GB keeping my 6 slots accupied and so mantaining the tri channel? I was hoping at least i could solove the initial problem and see always 12GB plus the possible 6GB of my actual modules. Could this be possible? Thank you Edited March 12, 2012 by octopus
Slinger
Yes that will keep your ram running in tri-channel, however, I ALWAYS recommend purchasing identical ram if you add more sticks. As for your ram issue, it is a known bug with X58 motherboards and some ram. It happened on my current setup and I basically had to reinstall the operating system to get it to fix(this is not a 100% solution.)

So what you recomend is to buy 3x4GB stick of mushkin blackline, everything would be identical (if i can find them) except the size of each stick. In my initial post i was assuming everithing will be identical but different brand and off course size. The problem is that due to my actual problem, i was thinking of skipping mushing because it clear a not good match with thw X58 chipset. I have seen (in forums) that this G. Skilli ripjaws worked fine with 12GB for some setups, thats why. Thank you for your time
Slinger
I currently am running 12gigs( 6 x 2gig sticks) of GSkill Pi's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335 And the reason i say use the same identical sticks is because one set may have certain timings and voltage and the other set different. It becomes an issue sometimes with trying to figure out stability issues.
