andreeam
Hello, i could really use some help.... I'm using 3d max 2011 and vray 2.00 as rendering engine. I downloaded some materials from http://www.vray-materials.de. I tried applying them to objects but the material does not appear neither in the viewport nor in the render. So, any tips?! AubreyM
Well not seeing the material in the viewport could be that you haven't clicked on "show map in viewport" in the material editor. As for not seeing the material in the render, is there a bitmap that the material uses that is not set right in the material editor? That is one of the reasons I don't use materials from there, it's easier to create them myself, less problems.
andreeam
Ok, one problem partially solved, thank you, i forgot about the show map in viewport. It shows up in the viewport but not correctly. To give you an example, i should have a stone wall but it appears as a grey wall and this is what happened with a lot of materials. They show up as a one colour material when they should have a texture. The materials are set correctly in the material editor.
AubreyM
It could be that the material uses a bump map that is either not included in the download or the path is not set properly. If you exit out of Max and then reload the scene does it ask you about missing maps?
andreeam
Yes , it asks for missing external files.... The program was taking the maps from the wrong place... Thank you very much for helping me. This problem was eating my brain for days now... Thank you again and have a nice day!
