AJLynn
No, I wouldn't buy that. I know Dell will tell you you can only run 3D apps on a computer they call a "workstation," but what you're looking at is a 3.3GHz quad core Core i7, which is nothing too special now, with a weak video card. (Tip: "workstation" is just a marketing word, it only means "computer marketed to business users".) If it must be Dell, you're better off with an XPS model. I don't know about their selection in India, but in the US you can have an XPS 8300 with a 3.4GHz i7-2600, Radeon 6870, 16GB, 2TB and Windows 7 Pro 64 for what a Precision with the specs you listed costs. Dimitris Tolios
Hi-End 3GB GTX 580 Price Intel i7-2600K $320.00 Asus P8Z68-V Gen3 $180.00 GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 580 3GB 384-bit $479.00 CORSAIR Veng 16GB (2 x 8) 1600 $134.00 CM Silent Pro RSA00-AMBAJ3-US 1000W $160.00 CM RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II $80.00 Samsung 830 128GB SSD $170.00 Hitachi 1TB 7200rpm 7K1000.C $129.00 LG BD-R Combo $65.00 Corsair H100 $99.00 Total Before Tax $1,816.00 Tax $149.82 Tower Price $1,965.82 This is relatively hi-end, leaving room for upgrading RAM (2/4 slots used) and having a PSU that can handle 2x GPUs like the GTX 580 3GB installed. Prices are from newegg.com some time ago. You might get some components a bit cheaper or more expensive atm here in the US, but I have no idea for pricing in India. H100 allows for good O/C in medium speed with relatively low noise.
Dimitris Tolios
Budget i5 Price Intel i5 2600K $230.00 Asus P8Z68-V Gen3 $180.00 MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II 2GD $254.00 16GB PC 1600 4x4 sticks $90.00 Seasonic M12II 620 Bronze $80.00 CM RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II $80.00 Hitachi 1TB 7200rpm 7K1000.C $129.00 24x DVD-RW $19.00 CM Hyper 212 EVO $35.00 Total Before Tax $1,097.00 Tax $90.50 Tower Price $1,187.50 And this is a cheaper, yet pretty capable tower that can handle a lot of professional work tasks in 3DS etc. You can mix and match components from the above. The 620W PSU is pretty capable in handling single GPUs and a Quad CPU.
Umesh Raut
Hey Padmesh, The prices here in Mumbai are almost same as their US range (conveted to INR) and a small Marwadi margin added on top, like the 2nd gen core i7 2600k (listed above @ $320, is available for 17500 (320*52=16640 plus 800-900 MM) and so on and so forth. For more than a decade, I have been building workstations, as Andrew has put it perfectly well, a high(er) end hardware assembly for a modest builder-user and not the glossy sales brochure from some BIG brand name. And I cater to arch-in clientele too.
