Devin Johnston
Wanted to post an early image of a lobby I'm working on, it was created in ArchiCAD then imported into Max. Any comments are welcome.
Ernest Burden III
Nice so far. I would move over to the left a little. This will open up the staircase, make the overhanging walkway more dramatic, and also open up the glasswall to the outside. Then, consider making the light come in from a little bit behind you. This will create a series of terrificly descriptive shadows on the curtainwall and give you a larger dark area in the foreground to 'ground' the image and let the light float. Finally, think about some way to make the floortile joints NOT be reflective. This can be done with a bumpmap (to depress them) or better yet a specular/reflectivty map. If you can do a specular map you can subtly change a few tiles for a much more realistic look. Nice color!
Devin Johnston
Thanks Ernest, good suggestions I'll post some more images as it developes.
Brian Cassil
Finally, think about some way to make the floortile joints NOT be reflective. This can be done with a bumpmap (to depress them) or better yet a specular/reflectivty map. I don't think adding a bump map by itself will take the reflection away from the joints. But, you can if you add a mask map to the reflection slot and then copy what you use in the bump slot to the mask in the reflection slot. You will then need to use something to generate the reflections in the map portion of the mask map like a raytrace map or better yet a raytrace that resides in a falloff map. Devin Johnston
Just an update, I've moved the sun and I like how it moved the camera more into shadow. I've tried to remove the reflection from the joints in the tile, not sure if it's working yet.
Ernest Burden III
Good, but move it less. Before it was just past right-angle--my suggestion is to be just a little past right-angle but pointing the other way. I think your gone too far.
