in desperate need of help, it seems i have accidentally pressed some kind of switch in 3d max and i cannot select anything in my scene with my mouse click and the only way to select objects is by selecting them by name! have tried switching the window/crossing selection types but that isn't helping, i restarted and started a new file - still the same. any ideas???

try under the time slider there is a padlock if that is pushed in (yellow) then max will lock itself so unpush the padlock button see if that helps?

Try hitting the spacebar key this will also lock the selection.

or on the main tool bar you will see a keyboard over-ride toggle. i am using max 9 so it should be left of the snaps try pushing that in

Try another mouse

as a last resort would uninstall max and reinstall it

one more thing try adding the service pack if not already done so

see if that help

should of ask this first does you're mouse work on the normal windows? if so then it mite not be you're mouse.

did you freeze you're objects are they gray LT or rt click on the view and a drop-down menu will appear select unfreeze all.

if this does not help them i'm out of ideas
