TomA
What is the best way the export a 3D microstation .dgn model out of Microstation and import it into 3DS Max. I have a large complex model with lots of curves and details, and am finding it nearly impossible to export/import it into Max without corrupting it in some way. I know it is possible to do so as I have worked with similar already imported models in Max before. Are there any special options or commands to select and follow during the process? Thanks
dande
The first thing to do before exporting from MicroStation is to move the project to the origin. I usuallt make a copy of the file and move the project to the origin in MicroStation. Then export as DWG. If the curves aren't coming in properly this could be the problem. If you still having problems. Move the drawing to the origin and export from MicroStation as ACIS SAT. I know V8i supports FBX but I've never had much success with complex drawings using FBX
TomA
Thanks for your reply. I found that if I 'Mesh by Element' everything before exporting to dwg it imports fine.
dande
Glad you got it sorted. Just make sure you move the project to the origin first otherwise you will have problems in Max if its too far from the origin
