Devin Johnston
Is anyone using the Space Pilot Pro, what's your experience like with it?
Frosty
I'm interested, but still using my Nostromo N52. Or as everyone at the office calls it, my weird keyboard thing.
branskyj
I am using the SpaceNavigator with 3DS Max- best thing since sliced bread. Navigation is magnitudes better than with conventional mouse (or in my case- trackball). It's not all roses though- the learning curve was a bit steep and took me several hours to get used to it. I can only imagine how cooler Space Pilot Pro is considering it's capabilities.
Devin Johnston
It's the learning curve that I'm finding difficult, I still want to use the hot keys and mouse to navigate. It's also harder to use due to 3d Studio's really sucky display drivers, large models lag and it makes navigating difficult.
branskyj
I agree with some of your remarks. I still use the 3D SpaceNavigator in conjunction with my keyboard and trackball, I just don't involve the latter so much any more. I have also noticed lag in huge scenes- over 1-2 million polygons and it is starting to take 2-3 seconds for the SpaceNavigator to respond to rotation and other movement. But that is why there is Isolation mode, Hide/Unhide options and so on... I guess having a very descent graphics card is also beneficial... Anyway I wouldn't go back to the traditional methods of scene movement. Good luck, man.
