Description:

Hi guys!

Just wondered if I could trouble all you geniuses for a little feedback on some wip images from my Masters of Architecture work. All far from final, including the design, but wouldn't mind waving it under your noses...

bit of background, it's a project about geology, death and the digital. The building is designed via computer and houses an institute that collects digital lives upon death and adds them to a virtual reality that can be experienced within spaces on site.

The above image describes the aesthetic of the structure. Concrete shells supported by wooden scaffolding, with copper details. This is a regular render with ao and a little light photoshop work.

And some look at the details, all rock bolting, concrete and steel.

Anyway, any comments good and bad are useful!

Thanks!

thanks! Yes, painted in dirt is needed, at the moment just a little flourish at the top.

One thing I do have a problem with is getting colour temperature and consistency right between my windows laptop, macbooks and printers! All producing wildly different results, with perhaps the mac closer to what comes out of our calibrated plotters.

Any ideas?

I like the work so far. But you say "The building is designed via computer". Is that a part of your design--that it's a machine that actually does the design? Or are you saying you worked on CAD? Either way, that needs some fleshing out.

Many years ago I read a Science Fiction story about exactly your premise--technology that 'uploaded' a soul to live in a virtual world. There were problems, like lack of detail in the departed people's world. They complained about it being barren and gray. The system was run by a private company which was struggling with enough RAM and server loads and all that. I cannot recall the story name. It was probably in Analog Magazine.

Keep posting.

By computer controlled design I mean that it's a sort of cad controlled manufacture and design, whereby my amateur builders dig hollows into the ground, then laser scan it. The computer then compiles a geometry and gives instructions.

That story does sound very relevant, as it brings up a problem I've designed into the project. My inhabitants did too complain that the world was empty, so the institute uploads cinema to flesh out the gaps. Consequently, the world resembles a montage of old and new, fiction and reality. I'm using Rome to illustrate this in the project itself, and there's a bit of a teaser for a film I'm making here...

bit rough, had to knock it out in an evening for review!

Great feedback guys! Much appreciated.
