Roodogg
Hi Guys... I have just downloaded the 'PerformanceTest 7.0' program from cpubenchmark.net and am comparing processors... When benchmarking a processor, it not only comes up with the general 'Mark' or score, it also shows many more measurements which vary wildly... Just wondering if anybody knew which, of the nine sub-categories are significant for V-Ray and 3ds Max rendering... I ask this because, comparing the four processors (see attached image - Dual Xeon E5440 / i7 980 / i7 2600k / and my computer; Core 2 Quad @ 2.33 Ghz). You can see that the various test give fairly varying results. Am I right to assume that the tests are inaccurate as it shows for 'INTEGER MATH' that my old Core 2 Quad is faster than a 2600k! CPU- MARK CPU- INTEGER MATH CPU- FLOATING POINT CPU- FIND PRIME NUMBERS CPU- SSE CPU- COMPRESSION CPU- ENCRYPTION CPU- PHYSICS CPU- STRING SORTING I'm not sure if this is a valid point or not, but I thought it worth asking before purchasing new hardware. Thanks.
Slinger
Not necessarily an error. it may be way the algorithm is written to calculate 'Integer Math' I will download this program tonight and run it on my i7-970 that is OC'd to 4.2ghz and see what I come up with. Roodogg
It's a bit misleading actually... As people are able to upload their own benchmarks, it actually comes up with wildly different stats for the same systems (Same spec - RAM / OS etc) which leads me to believe some are OC'd etc without it mentioning. I'm doing research today as I have a very tight budget for a fast rendering PC and I am finding that buying a reconditioned dual Xeon is much cheaper than a modern sandybridge based system, with almost the same raw processing ability. Roodogg
Ooh. Nice and fast. Minus 10,000 from that and that's mine! The i7 3930k shows a base score of 18,000. That's without Oc'ing. Reckon that's my new PC!!
