Greg Law
I'm having a problem with my Vray sky being only white. I'm using Vray sun and Vray phyical camera I have a Quadro 4000 graphic card Also I can't seem to get tranpanent glass. Even if I download the glass from The Vray material de site. It only seems to reflect. I have carefully followed all the tuts etc. I'm new at using vray. I am using version Vary2 The last update before the 2013 one Also 3dsmax 2012 design Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
RyderSK
Post screenshot Greg to better judge. Are you using exposure (either at vray camera or at environment) correctly ?
vincentg87
I used to have the same problem with glass not being transparent: Apply a new material with the refraction set to pure white, set IOR to 1.0: 1)if the new material applied makes the glass transparent, then the problem obviously lies in the previous material. 2)if the new material gives you the same result, try placing a few objects behind the glass and render to check if it's really not transparent, or just your eyes playing tricks on you. Greg Law
Thanks again for the help. Today I got transparency to work. Not sure what the problem was. I cleared the material maker and made a new Vray glass material like I did the other day and it worked straight away. I suppect it was picking up an issue from my other file through the material maker. Now the other problem was solved as well. However it brought up a new issue. In my tuts they say turn off effect background when using HSV exponential or exponential. When I do this I get a white backgound with a black outline on my model. Like attached. When I turn on effect background I get what I consider a normal background. Is this normal or have I got a setting wrong?
salvador
It also looks like a gamma thing from here. Try using LWF with linear color mapping or reinhard at a 0.7 burn. Are you actually using GI? If the glass works now, don't forget to set its IOR back to 1.56 which is about the correct value for clear glass and fresnel turned on at about 2.0. Greg Law
Thanks for the help. I think I am starting to get on the right track now. Still does anyone know what the issue of the white background and black line is?
Ismael
The black edges is Vray Antialiazing against an overbright background. http://renderstuff.com/best-vray-settings-antialiasing-and-color-mapping-cg-tutorial/ http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=888895 I favor a similar approach as: http://www.pixiq.com/article/correct-exposure 'Expose for the highlights...'
