Devin Johnston
I thought someone posted a link to some animated HDRI's a few months ago but I can't find the link, anyone know what it is?
Tommy L
Do you just mean animated skies? I dont thin there are any animated HDRI's on the market yet. Ill be very interested to hear there are though.
RyderSK
Well I would be fascinated if such existed :- ) But imagine their size, when single openexr hdri in decent resolution is already 150MB. You might be able to find tone-mapped hdri time-lapse of sky, but it would be useless for providing light information. http://www.openfootage.net/ has great collection of free time-lapse skies. I always wondered how to lit a scene with animated clouds (like Alex Roman did !, thought he used vray procedural clouds from vrayfog, but it's just my guess and regular timelapse imposed as background simply in After Effects montage ) I am interested in what you find

I work with HDRI's most of the time and I know how to do it, but I find this statement rather confusing. Is it because energy information changes over time or simply because it would be way too heavy to handle or else?
Tommy L
Spheron have an HDRI video camera in development. True HDRI. RED captures 5 stops I think. The regular spheron camera captures 26. Dont know what their video gets.
Devin Johnston
It turns out I was thinking some HD time lapse skies were HDRI but they aren't, apparently this doesn't exist yet like others have said but it would be useful if they did. Well, tone-mapping means converting it to lDRi image, basicaly just jpeg ;- ) but it can keep the "hdr" look. But it doesn't feature the exposure length (what a wrong word...can't remember right term) to produce shadow information to lit the scene. And yes, it would be incredibly heavy, 10+ GB for few seconds of the lapse if it had the resolution and detail single openexr like Peter sells does have. On other hand, smartIBL could come into work here. The timelapse would be 360px video and reflection and background would be simple high resolution tone-mapped LDRi. I also think it would produce weird light glitches in animation though.
