Where can I find good cars to use in my scenes in Max/Vray?

I'm looking on http://www.turboquid.com at the mo and there is some cars on there that look pretty good. Bit nervous though because I cant try one first,

If you can give me any pointers where I can find some cars that you were happy with would be fntastic. Prefferably UK Spec. NO RPC!

Cheers

www.lowpolygon3d.com

they have lots of lowpoly cars with really good texturing.... I have only used the ones in their freebie section, but if I had the cash I would definetly buy one or two of their vehicle sets.

these cars arent photorealistic up close, but look great from a distance

hehe, thats what i was going to suggest. and close up they certainly ARE photo real i can assure you. I purchased this lot last year and use them in almost all my work these days -

No dont mind paying for them at all, well the company I work for wont anyhow.

Just found a really nice 2004 Ford Fiesta on Turbosquid but its a Lightwave Model. Is there anyway I can Covert to Max?

Having look at the site you linked me to . Cheers.

I have downloaded the Eclipse and all the textures are there for you to play with so you can change the color of the car if you want.

How much did that turn out to be in U.S. currency? I see the site lists the price at 1000 yen. Just curious, they look like nice models.

My only problem with these models is that they have MANY textures per model, requiring a lot of file management. Not a huge big deal, just organize the materials into groups, use sub-folders, etc. BUT I want to modify them to be NPR textures, which is very hard to do with so many files, even working with something like C4Ds BodyPaint.

I would much prefer cars with a single UV map, well mapped. In fact, I should email the lowpoly guys and request it for the future.

Otherwise, their stuff is good.

The Japanese site looks like the models are very good, but so cheap that I would feel weird buying them. Also, they are highpoly, which is rarely needed in arch-vis. Lowpoly-count is usually the way to go.

I'll second the http://www.cgdatabank.com cars. None of the 5 or so I have are textured, it's all modeled. But they are relatively low poly, as only the visible interior parts are modeled. Really nice, imo, although the scales are screwy.

I believe that they are about $4 or so each, really cheap. They are European models, or somewhere besides the US, so some of the cars have different names.

I think that they are more accurate than a lot of the pricy cars on Turbosquid and usually end up looking very real.

Hey, that's sounding better and better! In truth, I am just as happy doing NPR with non-textured cars, since there is a lot I can do in Photoshop with a materials map, if its textured, I'm more stuck with the texture. That's why I need to modify the textures pre-render.

I have been thinking about using 'knife' to manually cut up some cars so I can eliminate their textures all together, just have material breaks.

If it makes you feel any better, the current exchange rate for Japanese Yen to US Dollars is 0.009107 (per Yahoo Finance). So, each of those cars was 1000 Yen, making them $9.107 each. Buy a load of them (I've got 27 of them in my shopping basket), and you're looking at a couple hundred dollars. :)

Don't know if they're affordable enough for my accounting department to approve that many.
