kevinelika
hi, i want to ask, i use archmodel in my design, using import -> merge, and when i render it, the 3dsmax always crash and close the window suddenly at the light cache calculation, no message. do you know what is the problem? If I delete the archmodel, it renders normally. I use Macbook Pro 15" i7 with 4 GB RAM, using 3ds max 32 bit on Windows 7 32 bit. I use Vray at all of my material. maxgooday
4GB or RAM isn't a lot these days for rendering visuals - maybe try upgrading your RAM at some point. I would also look at the materials on the Archmodel. Sometimes they have super high subdivs on the samples. I hope that might help with things. erickdt
Also, using the 32bit version of MAX will only allow you to use up to 1GB of memory. 64bit MAX has unlimited memory usage. Your problem is you're running out of memory... E
John Dollus
As Matt mentioned, Archmodels can be pretty rediculous with their material settings so try and assign a default grey vray material to it and see if that renders. Since it crashes during light cache, it likely is a material problem and not geometry related so I suspect that it will render with a plain grey material assigned. If that works, start looking at recreating the vray materials that came with the offending model. not related to LC but make sure you raise the dynamic mem limit in the Vray Settings tab from the 400mb default to 4000. Since you are on 32 bit, it should automatically limit you to 3000mb. give that a go and report back here what you find out. depending on what you find out with the materials, you may have to compromise and decrease your LC samples to get it to process on that system.
