nickdk
What's the best way to upsample geometry? I have a complex model that i need to smooth before i'm sending it to 3D printing, but I need to keep all the sharp edges? I have tried different modifiers but haven't found what i'm looking for. It's very important that the geometry stays watertight/solid
RyderSK
You can always just tesselate then use relax modifier. Works like smoothing without changing geometry.
nickdk
Juraj to the rescue ;-) I'll give it a try, thanks!
nickdk
I tried it but the results wasn't very good :S Do you know any other way to do it? from tessellation the geometry looks strange already, and relax modifier does help a bit but not enough. RyderSK
Well, if it looks weird from tesselation, it might not really be a clean mesh to start with, not much to do there. Can you post a wired screenshot ?
nickdk
Yeah the mesh is not clean at all :S I have spend ages making it a solid and realized that it's not smooth enough, it sucks! I can mail you the model?
nickdk
I mailed it to your yahoo account :-) If you're too busy then no worries:cool:
nickdk
I still need help solving this issue, Where is a good place to look for a freelancer that can handle this?
datacrasher
cannot you upload a photo? because it's hard to tell you how smooth you want the model because you don't say. If you run some connects through you're model this will smooth out the parts you have run/ran the connect through the model, then add you're sub numbs on you're model this will tell you how smooth you're model is
Peter M. Gruhn
Indeed, pictures would help. And don't assume that we have the same criteria you do. We may all be looking at your pictures saying "yeah, what's the problem?"
salvador
This might sound silly and newbie, but a great way to smooth out geometry is to set adjacent polygons to the same smothing gruop; in 3ds MAX at least. May be not what you are talking about.
