Advice on creating a smooth floor from an edge loop.

Hi guys. :)

One of the big things I'm struggling with is trying to cap holes to create a floor space within a baked edit poly selection. I have no issues selecting the line segments so I use 'create shape' to turn the shape into a spline.

Upon capping holes or face extruding through the selected segment, this doesn't mesh or look too well. Smooth 3D didn't seem to work either which leads me to think it should be occurring in the initial edit poly stages, before the mesh smooth and bend modifiers occured to generate my shape.

So I then attempted to keep the top surfaces of my initial component by extruding the desired lengths of the shape, but then extruding the top and bottom faces back in the negative Z to create a plane.

After lots of experimentation, I discovered that when I attempt to vertex weld, max doesn't wish to weld in the Z -axis when a face exists between.

I'm not sure if using a pro-boolean will help? Or how I would go about using the section spline and attempting to create floors through intersections somehow that way?

Would appreciate any help! :o

Here's my max file if it's any help!
