hockley91
Is there a way to merge the Final Gather files? I used Vray for many years and there was a utility where you could merge and view the Irradiance Map files. It would be great to merge the files for the animations I work on, but I have not found a way to do it in Mental Ray. I did come across an article about Maya having a tool for merging FG files. Thanks! Adam
datacrasher
you cannot merge the file because MR and vray are completely different. you need to choose which one you want to work with. there is this but i don't it will help you? http://jamiecardoso-mentalray.blogspot.co.uk/2010/01/mental-rayconverting-vray-max-scene-to.html
ramy
You can't necessarily merge 2 existing FG files together, but you can always add to an existing FG map by using the "Incrementally Add FG Points to Map Files" option.
hockley91
Well, the one great thing about Vray is that you can tie two animation segments together that have 2 different Global Illumination files and you can merge them in the Vray utility. That's been very nice to use in the past as I've used Vray extensively. I've pretty much switched over to Mental Ray now and it's a bit frustrating to not be able to merge the files for animation purposes. But....that's just a small inconvenience. I was just wondering if it were possible. It's nice to not have to keep track of all the FG settings if they were all in one file. One less thing to worry about. Especially when dealing with animations and dealing with all the different settings for each segment.
