jensandersen
Hello Currently i have 3ds max 2012 installed with alot of plugins and such, now i would like to try out the "extra" features in 3ds max 2012 Design. I would like to avoid having to reinstall plugins and re"setup" toolsbars all over. So how should i procede with this "upgrade"? Is it just copy/paste certain folders or? Couldnt find anything on autodesk about it. Thank you. Kind regards Jens

I currently have max 2012 installed and want to go to max Design 2012. So, same version, plugins work fine for both im sure. I just wanted to try the extra features of the Design edition. Im wondering if I can just run the .exe of the Design installer and it will upgrade my current installation with afflicting the plugins and such. John Dollus
No, it will install as a separate application with it's own set of config files and your plugins/service packs will have to be installed for the Design install afterward

theqball
it's probably best to re-install the plugins but if you know what folders they are copied into you can usually just copy them over. to copy the prefs simply copy C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2012 - 64bit\enu to C:\Users\shane\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2012 - 64bit\enu the UI will look like it was in Max (default of dark) but the additional features for Exposure and Civil View will be there.
