santal
Hi, mi goal is to build PC which I can use for modeling and rendering in MAX/vray set-up. I want to build something under my table - pc. This is my build I created after some research. My budget is 1100 euro [i don't want to but I can go to1500 if its worth it] processor: Intel Core i7-3770K MOBO: MSI Z77A-G43 GPU: MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC RAM: 16GB KIT DDR3 1600MHz CL10 Vengeance [2x8gb] disc : Western Digital Caviar Green 2000GB 64MB cache s Advanced Format power supply: OCZ ZS Series 550W case: Eurocase MiddleTower 5301 black This is it. I wan to ask what do you think about this build. Is there better processor in this price range? I was thinking about 6-core Intel Core i7-3930K, but it is too expensive. Is it worth the money it to buy 6-core processor? I have experience with only dualcores and I was able to do all my things. But something is telling me that more is better. About the graphics card. I chose nvidia because all my life I had ati radeos and i wasn t satisfied. On the other hand I want to try something new and I read lot of good thing on this cards. I do not render RT with my current card but I will play with it with this one. I was also thinking about GTX560Ti [i could safe 100 euros] but I chose this one instead. please let me know your opinion. This is my first serious build/workstation so I want to spend my money good way.
Dimitris Tolios
The CPU is great. The Hex-Core ofc is almost 50% faster than a Quad while you render or apply certain filters in PS that are multithreaded, but most operations and modelling applications are not multithreaded. And yes, little chance to build a proper 3930K with 1100 euros.Mobo is fine. All Z77 mobos from MSI/Asus/Asrock/Gigabyte are good choicesGPU: a GPU more powerful the the GTX 560 Ti is useful only under certain scenarios - aka GPU accelerated rendering tasks - available in VRay RT GPU, IRay GPU, Octane and some operations within Premiere and AE CS5.5 and newer. Especially for the rendering engines, the biggest bottleneck (deal breaker in many cases) is not the GPU raw speed, CUDA cores etc, but the memory size: scenes have to fit in your VRam 100%, including geomerty, texture maps, proxies etc. The GTX 580 was a popular choice if you would get the 3GB version. If I was to choose between a 560 Ti 2GB and a 580 1.5GB, I would get the former, unless I was also deep into gaming and could not settle for anything other than "ultra settings". Even in this case, a GTX 670 4GB would be a better choice than the 580 GTX. If you don't game or do not use GPU renderers, even cards cheaper than the 560Ti will save you some money and noise, while accelerating your viewports just fine. Also keep in mind that for $ to $, Radeons are better in many cases for viewport performance.PSU: this is the biggest concern: a quality 550w will struggle with a powerful GPU, especially the 580 that drains way more power than the equally fast or faster 6xx series based on the new architecture. PSUs don't like being stressed @ more than 60-70% of their actual output. Quality PSUs can pull it out but efficiency will suffer. Low quality PSUs or a defective unit might blow with a chance to take your mobo and a couple of other components out (usually cards that are directly powered). Again, without any overclocking and with a mild card, like the 560Ti you will be fine, but if you would go 580, consider a 650W to be safe.HDD is fine. Consider adding a 128GB SSD for your OS/Apps, does make your machine zoom and boom. Stick with Crucial m4s and Samsung 830 which appear to be the most reliable ones out there while maintaining more than decent speeds, have good TRIM etc.RAM: solid choice. 2x8 GB gives you room to grow in case you want to populate all 4 slots in the future. 1600 is noticeably faster than the 1333 "Standard", 1833 could add a bit more but unless you get your sticks through a promotional offer, performance gain/cost gets lower. santal
thank you Dimitrios, so everything is settled I changed GPU fot ASUS ENGTX560 Ti DC2/2DI/2GD5 and PSU to Corsair TX650M It will cost me 1150 euros
mi75
Hi, disc : Western Digital Caviar Green 2000GB 64MB cache s Advanced Format I wouldn't go the Caviar Green. I had one at work and it was a nightmare, so slow!. I eventually replaced it with a "black" after months of complaining to the boss, and never looked back. I was quite shocked my boss had green installed in my workstation and a raptor in the render farm machines. I thought I read somewhere that the Green spins at 6000rpm most of the time instead of 7200 in order to reduce power usage.

ananyomajumder
Hi david, i would say... i7 3770k is the best... but i would have gone for the asus p8z77 mobo... and vga- ati firepro v5800 coz its givin maximum digital resolution of 3840 X 2400 rather than your one which is havin a resolution of 2560 X 1600.... and its cost effective.... and go with a 700 or 750 watt psu huntkey or antec , 650 watt wont be sufficient.... if you are goin for 3770k then you will be needing a cooler( coolermaster v6gt) bcoz... this processor gets over heated while overlocking...wich i came to know thru the reviews.. 3770k(ivybridge) performs 10% better than the 2600k(sandybridge) which is also great..in that case you will be needing a cooler... and with the cabinet... go for antec df-35.... you will be getting 4 coolers already... this is also a mid size cabinet...by the way i came to know about all this from Juraj Talcik...he is also from Bratislavia... hope you know him... he would surely help you outthis.. he is also in cg architect... :-)
