Chris MacDonald
Hey guys & girls, I'm hoping to in my spare time (what little there is of it!) embark on producing some 3D stock items to sell, whether it be trees, candlesticks, chairs or fireplaces; but rather than waste my time creating things that may not be wanted, I'm just wondering what it is that you people constantly find yourselves in need of? A few of my thoughts were; -High end/photorealistic/animated trees and/or shrubs/foliage. -High end furnishings, along the lines of designconnected - but more tailored towards "traditional", cosy design rather than the already competetive modern design corner of the market that DC already have extremely well covered. -High quality textures; what kind would you like to see? Groundcover? Building materials? etc Some feedback would be wonderful, as although I plan to create items to sell I would also be looking to give away a fair few bits too. I've already started on bits & pieces on my blog: http://macviz.blogspot.co.uk/ Thanks for your time.
R.Stewart
Australian trees!!! A few different eucalyptus trees would be great. Wattle trees, Black boys etc. We would buy them in a flash and I'm sure many people would. That'd be bonza mate. Fair dinkum.
Nic H
F'kn oath mate. some aussie trees wouldn't go astray. dont bother with 'cosy furniture' dead end imo. good 3d / shops (that look like real shops based on real shops - not some *american mall* ideal of what a shop is would be handy)
braddewald
I like the idea of really high quality furniture. As of now, designconnected sofas and beds are really the only thing I'm willing to put in a rendering (everything else just looks fake). And since they do lean a little modern, more traditional stuff might be a good seller. Personally though, I'm in the market for traditional bar stools. Every time I search for a bar stool, an ultra-modern one comes up. Models of bar stools like these are really what I'm after: http://www.roomstogo.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=searchResults&freeText=bar+stool.
Chris MacDonald
Thanks for the ideas guys, they're all worth doing I think. As for the shops I know exactly what you mean about the models that are currently out there looking like the stuff you'd find in an american mall; would you be more interested in shop fittings/furnishings, or actual shops & shop frontages? Chris MacDonald
Wouldn't we all! I'm going to leave 3D people to guys that regularly do 3D people though, as I've far less experience modelling them than I do architecture related things; though maybe one day I might try my hand at it to see how it goes. Still to this day the best 3D people I've seen at a (relatively) affordable price point are the axyz design ones, but without a decent set of MoCap's you're always going to end up with stuff looking a bit like this... [video=youtube;iRZ2Sh5-XuM] I'm hijacking my own thread :-/ Back on topic are there any other suggestions? Perhaps some high quality foodstuffs for kitchen/restaurant shots? Fooch
shopfronts.. or market shops. As nic said, shops that actually look like real shop fronts instead of bad lowpoly ones in the market Edited July 24, 2012 by fooch
