colorID
hi everybody, I m fresh graduted architect(i have been working for only 8 months in an architectural firm), i used to do some 3d work when i was at the universtiy and i was very happy doing it,i always wanted to do this for the rest of my life, but after graduation i felt that i must go into DESIGN firm, something like architectural one,and thats what i did,but after this period of working with this firm(though they suppose to be a good architects) i didnt feel myself fitting this postion, felt like i must turn back to my passion;3d art. now this is the problem all about,am i doing the right thing?leaving the architectural world and doing 3d art(architectural visualization),i always though that we architects must be designers(creators)it is not about bricks and coloumns as much as the creation proccess itself. My Q is; u guys think it is a good step to go this new world?what is architectural visualization after ten years?can i turn into advertisment or film making thing?i loved always those ppl who do work like this www.framestore-cfc.com ,does any body passed such experience be4? sorry for this too long post, but this problem is really bothering me and i really appreciate any feedback from anyone. thnx alot

Ras
Hmm - I´m probably not the right one to reply to this as I´m just doing my final projct... But it occurs to me that if you would really like to do something else you probably will not be going far in your current position. If your heart is in 3D I think this is where your future is. But of course you always have to ask yourself - Why do I think the grass is greener... If the answer for you is that the grass really is greener then get going ASAP. In Denmark you´ll be surer of getting a job if you do 3D than if you do not. The initial unemployment rate for a fresh architect is 70% the first year!!! Someone with experience in 3D is much better of. The use of professional visualizers is bound to go up here in Denmark - but I of course don´t know about your local situation. colorID
hi hi every one, thnx alot ras for ur reply ,guess the green think u mentioned is something one should take in consideration and thats why i want to take this next coming period as a trial to know what i really like actually the issue that really runs in my mind can be pointed as follow : 1.are we all here doing this really great work (i mean it ) are architects? should it be an architect to practice such a work? does it affect the output being an architect? 2.for those who do 3d art if i can call it,are we within design firms? or we are like specializied in producing cg architecture. 3.how (for those who are specialized to be cgarchitects) how we imagine ourselves like after ten years, what we ll do? like,is it clear future for such a field? 4.whats the inlovment of the creation process in our products in the field of being ,if i can say renderer. (lighting, materials and angels of camera's? (( i like these things much )) 5.do u think it is a right way thinking that if i moved into that industry of something as i just mentioned www.framestore-cfc.com or any like company ,gonna get back some creation to my field? or maybe its the wrong decision. sorry guys if i made too long for you,but this issue is making me think and think all the time, and i wanna know if someone here may have passed such expreince be4? thnx alot for everyone
kingeldar
i can tell you why i moved from architecture to cg 1 did i want to spend my time cryin against stupid laws made by stupid peops who don't know nothing about real peops life (talkin bout politics.... france has a speciality MOST alomost ALL politics come from one HIGHSCHOOL THAT CREATES ONLY CLONES° 2 DID I WANT TO SPEND MY LIFE S***** INVESTORS d**** to get the job instead of another archi.... 3 did i want to get tired working on competitions based on lie and cheating 4 did i want to think 80% of time about Money (u know remove that insulating that is not obliged by law will make life in da building better but construction costa little higher REMOVE IT i want to make maximum profit (when private ivestor, state wants to spend lkess money 4 other reasons more acceptable...) 5 in france when an architecte earns 1 the cg artists earns 4 or 5 so my coice is done cg for now in ten years? who knows cpu evolve so fast who knows ... Devin Johnston
My situation was similar to yours; I graduated Architecture school and went to work for a firm as an intern. I always loved 3D but couldn’t find a job at the time doing it. After a year I did find a job doing what I love, and I haven't looked back. The benefit of being an Architectural Illustrator is you are able to give your own artistic view to every project you work on, so in a since that project is just as much yours as it is the designers who are working on it. It's up to you to make it look good and convincing, not everyone is able to do this. Another benefit of doing this work is you are going to be better paid than a typical designer or architect is in a much shorter time. As for if this field will be around in 10 years I would venture a guess and say yes. As technology grows this field will definitely grow with it. That's going to mean more and more realistic imagery in a shorter period of time, and it will also eventually mean moving beyond printed media and 2D visual information. It's all about how much effort you put into developing your skills and how valuable you make your self to the firm you are working for. I am working for a firm who completely depends on me for 3D images and animations, and I like it that way. :ngelaugh:
trey
i'm surprised no one is trying to go into the world of pixar, ilm, etc. i got really good at 3D at my firm. i've put together a nice demo reel and soon will be sending it to the big wigs of CG film. its a long shot but worth a try. set really lofty goals for yourself. i did. i thought to myself what is the next level up from doing 3D architecture. the next logical step is to go into CG film. John Dollus
Since you are already in Atlanta, why not try Fathom? They are actively looking and deep in production on an interesting feature with a solid cast.
