Tommy L
Hello dudes, Im rendering an interior with one sun (mr area spot) coming through a window. Error message 'no photons stored after emitting 1000000 photons' whilst rendering. I understand this means its getting no photons bounced back? The help said to put everything in a sphere. This doesnt seem to help. Can someone explain what the error means and how to fix it please? Cheers, Tom
gdamaso88
in the indirect illumination menu for mr check "all object generate or receive caustics & gi" or select the geometry right click go to properties and under the mental ray tab check generate global illumination and receive global illumination
pixelperfectg
I would think it would be more practical to use a spot light or direct light for the sun, in place of a single omni. Just keep in mind that your blasting photons 360 degrees with an omni. However, a spot light or direct light will focus those photons only where needed, like into a window, etc. Allowing you to turn down the settings a bit and speed up the render. Tommy L
Is an mr area spot an omni? figured it aint but im a beginner with mr.... Solved the problem by lighting the scene again from scratch. Had imported some lights from another file. Does anyone have any general tips on internal animations using mr? We are having limited success because the final gather solution is r-calculated in each frame causing interference in the shady areas of the renders. I need to fihure something out soon so we can decide whether to buy the licences for the farm. Or is v-ray a better option? or even scanline with baked radiosity? pixelperfectg
Oh geesh, my bad...I could've sworn that your first post mentioned using a MR omni. I'm terribly sorry for the added confusion! Jeff

jucaro
as an added info, that error is also generated when the objects in your scene was not set to receive and generate GI.
nisus
Hi Tommy L, Does anyone have any general tips on internal animations using mr? You can try to render the FGmap on the forehand and load it for the final animation... I haven't tried it, but it might help solve your problem... MR 3.3 (available with max7) is supposed to have texture baking inside... ;-) rgds nisus
