Scott Schroeder
My theory: I think the split is part of the overall game-plan to merge Max and Maya. It enables them to keep Max Design which would require a much lighter development team and then concentrate their 3d development resources on one super-product. Im sure the price will go up for Maxya but will have the best features cherry-picked from both. And I dont know why people who use Autodesk products always bash them. There's plenty of other options out there if you are unhappy. Death to Autodesk? Thats a bit strong. I bash Autodesk because I pay thousands of dollars to a massive company and yet I get a product that appears to have been developed by children and monkeys. I like Max, I don't think there is a better alternative for what I need it for and for what it can do. However, I do not like what Autodesk has been doing in the last few releases as far as their shoddy work. So I bash them because: A) It's fun B) They asked for it C) I own stock in Autodesk D) They have me by the nutter butters and I can't use anything else E) All of the above
Umesh Raut
The whole thing is summarized by Scott in a proper and hard hitting manner. Yes, if they charge us exorbitant (its way more in India than the US or international prices) and have tall claims of listening to us (only on paper) they must be bashed and bashed hard, where it would hurt the most. Its only because of lack of competition. Sometimes I wonder if the Big MS can face a lawsuit for monopolistic trade practices and competition destroying behavior, why not the Big A?? Jason Matthews
To be honest, I am a bit peeved by the 2012 and 2013 bundles. I am a BIM Manager for a construction company and luckily they buy the software. I could not imagine doing my own thing and having to buy the Design Suite because I need all three Revit platforms, Max, Navisworks and AutoCAD. Why not have a package specifically for the BIM guys, one for the Visualization guys, or even an a la cart version (pick 3 or 4 products). Half of the products I have are not even installed because I don't need them. Inventor? Really? Anyways, I think Autodesk needs a better business plan than they have now. It seems like the subcontractors, small design firms, and the individuals are the ones hurt most by the way they have everything set up. I suppose that's what happens when a company has a relative monopoly on the software for the industry.
