Guest ywmang
hi all, I'm thinking about building 3d model of some famous architecture, but first of all, I'll need their plans. I would appreciate anyone who can suggest any source where I can find their plans. My further thinking is maybe when I finish the model and texturing, I can export it into the Quake III, (yes, I'm a quaker). then I can really do the walkthru. Ha Anyone interested? plastic
you should find this things in the library of your local technical university, or at a institute (real plans). i'm afraid there is not much in the web.

HeDaCoM
how do you export it to quake III? II exported once to unreal but it was a tedious process. is there something easy for quake III?
Guest ghraben
short answer? no, i do not think it is "easy" (it's NOT File -> Export -> Q3A ), but it is possible and easier than before. find out about gMax from discreet and the Tempest gamepack for it. it's basically a stripped version of max distributed for free for game level design. i believe you can even find a script over at scriptspot.com to import 3ds into gmax. in gmax you can polish your models and add q3a items like ammo, xporters, etc. and then export to a map file. i have only briefly played with it, so i can't give any more insight. HeDaCoM
I don't want to put ammo on it I just wanted the realtime engine of the game to visualize architecture. and if the game could hide the weapon better. I think game engines are more advanced than any other realtime visualizers for architecture, VRLM, and so... thanks for the tip of gmax.
John Dollus
You could model a set of blueprints and use that as the 'weapon' model. It would look like you were navigating the model with blueprints.
nisus
and if you could add a dot where you're located on it, this would be just grant rgds nisus
Guest ywmang
thx ghraben, I do found some models on the site I've just downloaded that famous barcelona pavillion, hope that's a nice enough model. It's in 3dmf format. looking for ways to import it into 3dsmax. the next thing I need to do will be looking for a lot of images of it. and HeDaCoM, thx for agreeing on my max-to-quake idea. It just came to me one night when I fly around in the quake rocket arena (after being killed, and I always get plenty of time to fly around the arena. ) thx for all the replies!! Guest ywmang
well, I did some research these few days.... but it doesn't seem to be as easy as I thought, not just having a model built in 3ds max and press export button...... but just now I read about that the rainbow six series ships with 3ds max import. does anyone here have any knowledge about this??? ok, my intention (I say again) is I want to walkthrough a building by using any method on computer. I don't care if it's in quake, rainbow six, serious sam..... as long as it's good and easy. (but I'll prefer game engine, or are there any better choice?) I've chosen the famous barcelona pavillion for this project. Hope I can finish it before my school start in Sep. I'd really like to share it to anybody who are interested. (if I can get it done, of course) thx!
