MiguelStevens Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 I'm having trouble getting any DOF or Z-DEPTH to work.. i have to put the F-number value SUPERLOW in order to even see the DOF triangles appear from the camera. and the Z-depth map is always black Jup i turned on Depth of field in the camera rollout in vraysettings and in the settings of the camera! anyone that can help me ? thnks! Tommy L Posted September 2, 2012 Share Posted September 2, 2012 Rendered DOFG and Z-Depth pass are two completely separate things, from your post it sounds like you are using them together... Physical camera works with real world settings. If you are finding that the Z-Depth is not behaving like a dslr would then chances are you have a scale issue. Most probably that your scene is too large. If you are just playing around with DOF thats one thing, if its for a pro job then I'd recommend you do it in post, which would require a Z-Depth pass. You need to measure in your scene the distance from the camera to where you want your controllable focus to be. That would be your black point and white point in the resulting Z-Depth pass. Enter these two numbers in the ranges in the render elements tab in Vray Panel. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ricardo Eloy Posted September 3, 2012 Share Posted September 3, 2012 Looks like your focal length is too low. You can tell by the distance between the 3 focal planes. The further from each other, less DOF you'll get. In order to get a more visible effect you'll have to set focal length higher, so these planes come closer to each other.
