Printing and such

We try to avoid the regular arguments about messed-up printing colors....the guys there always mess it up. So we give a CD or send the filez via e-mail. It's the best way since U can't control what is the calibration of the machine in each shop that got the printing contract for each particular project...

I use http://www.ibackup.com to upload large files. I find that it seems better to the client to get the final the minute it's done and not have to wait 24hrs for fed ex. I've also done this directly to the printer, so the client only has to pick up the final print.

 

I've never printed for a client and won't for a final print, just not worth it unless they just want a small print.

Just trying to justify a new printer. I rarely print myself because a lot of the work I do gets printed at 30" X 42". How do other people present your work to clients? Do you print yourselves or do you outsource?

For presentations and meetings i print myself, but otherwise when a job is finished the client gets only a CD with the files on it, so not much printing here too.

We print out every image and so deliver only very high quality photo's to clients. That way people always see our work in the best possible quality and not some client-printed A4 that has ran out of ink. Also this clears all possible excuses of bad print versus image/rendering faults, because any excuse is not good enough.

 

Btw, we also outsource our printing as we are not professional printers (persons, not machines).

What I am coming up against is that I just don't need a high end printer (I cannot afford a high end plotter). I was thinking of getting the Epson 2200 but I really never print now as I could never print the size. I know printing profiles and color profing can be an issue but I dont really see a way around it.

I started using the Epson 1520 4years ago, up to the 2000p, now I have the 2200. I LOVE IT! It has paid for itself very quickly. I installed the profiles and from Photoshop and Illustrator the colors are dead on. The archive paper helps me sleep at night. When the client wants bigger than 13 x 19, I outsource. I am fortunate to have a great source I can FTP to and have them drop off. I still have the 2000p and have not used it in 4 months. (it will be on ebay soon) I will be purchasing another 2200 to help with the deadlines, I usually find myself tweaking the image until the last minuet then pacing waiting for the printer. The 2200 is almost 2x as fast as the 2000p, however they are never fast enough for me. I use this printer for my clients and my marketing. Did I say I loved this printer??? My2cents.
