Sketchrender
Hi I have to produce a brick pattern so that every third brick in the horizontal pops out but about 25mm. I tried with a bump map but can't get the right depth. I have also tried a displacement map but that just wrecks the over all corners ect. Help would be appreciated. salvador
VRay Displacement modifier will do the trick for you (assuming you are using VRay). You must know a couple of things though. First, use 3d displacement instead of 2d for this one. Second, make sure "tight edges" is checked on. Third you must have your diffuse and displacement maps correct and consistent. Fourth, you must have your UVW mapping correctly set up. I don't see why it wouldn't this way. See this clip from a render a did some time ago. The bumped out bricks are 100% VRay Displacement modifier.
Scott Schroeder
Create a box the size of the brick you need. Add as much detail as you want to make it brick like. Create a nice square wall of those bricks, say 10'x10'. Move the bricks you want to pop out. Add a plane behind all of the bricks to act as grout. Push or scale the bricks back to show as much grout as needed. Proxy the object or bake out a normal map using render to texture or Xnormal, etc. Or use displacement as Salvador mentioned. You'd need to create a custom displacement map where the popped out brick is the brightest white and the rest of your bricks are grayish so you don't even a fully even displacement. Sketchrender
Thank you I was using the 2D bitmap. So the 3D modifier will do the job. Thank you phil
