3DS Max 2012 - weird wireframe problems

Hey,

I just installed 3DS max 2012 on my computer and have had some weird wireframe problems.

Firstly I was using 3DS max 2013 but need to use the same version as my university which is why I switched to 2012. Now when I save my 2013 version as a 2012 version and open it in max 2012 the wireframe view is all out of whack! All of my geometries aren't square and I have lines going in every direction possible. However when I change to 'realistic' view everything is perfect. When I render, everything is perfect.

I tried importing my sketchup model into 3DS Max 2012 (I used sketchup to build it) and I get the same problem.

I'm assuming there is a graphics button I need to check on or something in 3DS Max 2012 but have no idea. Does anyone know what is going on?

Cheers

Some things to look at:

Check that the model in 2012 is the same size and using the same system units as is was in 2013. (ie it was not scaled differently when you imported) The default units are inches when you first install Max. If you told it to scale to scene units, you could have a problem

If scene geometry is too big this can cause some viewport strangeness. If all that is OK, try getting the latest video drivers for your card, and/or switching to OpenGL/Direct X to see if that improves things.

Thanks for the response.

The model has been imported with the same unit setup and when importing from sketchup the units don't really matter anyway.

I did switch to Open GL and it solved the problem however I'm not sure how this will go leading towards the deadline for my assignment. I don't want to come across more problems that won't allow me to do my animation for the building in my 3DS Max model.

I'm in the process of downloading 3DS Max Design 2012 to see if that works.

I would like to stick with the Nitrous driver. Do you know what could be causing the driver to be acting this way?

Adam have you updated to 2012 SP2 and the new public updates ? cause in PU 6 it is mentioned "Using Save To Previous from 3ds Max 2013 now correctly saves and reads Unicode characters." this was a bug prolly...anyways if not updated you know this problem could exist. good luck

I downloaded 2013 max about 2 months ago and downloaded 2012 max 3-4 days ago. I'm using the free educational versions from the websites so I'm assuming I have the latest version with the latest updates.
