mikebart
when using the vray displacement mod is there a way to get rid of gaps in the UV seams?, i've tried putting a slight negative value on the shift parameter, which helps a bit, but not much good up close Its only really a problem close up, I guess I could fix them up pretty easily in PS later, but still annoying. thanks for any suggestions,
salvador
You should've read through the posts. This is a very common issue. Yet, I'm gonna provide you with the answer: Use 3d displacement mode and check on "Tight edges"
mikebart
thanks salvador, I tried what you've suggested but got the same results as with those settings in the first post. I couldn't find anything specific to open UV seams in search, just smoothing group seams, (which I always thought behaved the same anyway), but nothing suggested in any existing thread on the dispacement mod worked for me. I eventually figured out what was going on though, the pixels along the UV seams were different height values to their corrosponding UV seam, and thats why the edges of the bread and chopping block were seperating. I fixed it by rendering a UVW template, magic wanding the void space in PS and stroking a path of a neutral grey with a blurred edge along the UV seams. salvador
Oops! I should've said you also have to tick on "Keep continuity". Sorry! Ok se this picture; tight bounds are off and keep continuity is on. Now the edges are displaced but not broken. Hope it still helps. mikebart
thanks again, that helps alot. A bit OT but, have you seen anyone use the displacement mod for doing things like large expances of Ivy on walls?, I think it could be ideal for that. salvador
Well, no, but it wouldn't look good unless the ivy is far away. If you want fast Ivy google for Guruware Ivy plugin which is based on the Ivy Generator. Both are freeware and get you cool results.
