jonel
I'm not claiming, I'm telling. i7 is great for a workstation, i5 i better for a render node - at least that was the case with previous generations, i7 and i5 (2700k and 2500k? not sure, I'm a bit outdated with latest HW). It does render a bit slowly but it's cheaper and less power and memory hungry. I'll post a screen with the same OS/max/vray and the same scene loaded. Got me too with a suprise when I saw it.. With 2000€ you should be able to buy a workstation + render node. If you don't buy monitors, you should be able to squeeze two nodes.

jonel
Well... I've just tried - and it's not double, sorry. i7 does use more - but not double. As I've loaded some masterplan scene: i5 peak=6.67GB, and 5.54GB while rendering, 55min48s i7 peak=7.43GB, and 6.23GB while rendering, 50min45s
