stefambatros
Hi, I just started a new rendering project for a client and i am trying to use vray displacement to create some text geometry as i have to render a lot of scenes with just some text changes from one scene to another. The problem is i need to provide the renders in 3000x3000 resolution and i can't get the edges of the diplaced geometry to look smooth. I tried using displacement maps with resolution from 3000x3000 to 6000x6000 and still no smooth result. I also tried maps with blur and no blur but still the result aren't what i need. Anyone has any idea on what am i doing wrong here ? Thanks
Jon Berntsen
What happens if you subdivide your mesh? Do you use a displace slot in VrayMtl, or do you use the VrayDisplace modifier?
Ismael
How about just extrude, inset and chamfer?
Umesh Raut
How about just extrude, inset and chamfer? That is the simplest and best way, no need to calculate displacement at render time and file isn't large too.
Scott Schroeder
Are you going to be zoomed that far in for the final render or is it an overall shot where you won't see the artifacts? I agree with Ismael, just do it in geometry and save yourself some headaches.
salvador
How do you wrap the text object along an arched path?

stefambatros
Thanks guys for your replies. The problem was i needed the edges of the letters to be smooth so i would have to do a lot of poly submodeling to achieve this effect with turbosmooth. I managed to make vray displament work by loading the displacement map with a vraybmpfilter instead of normal bitmap. I also blurred the displacement map and now the results look great. salvador
Ok, so post it here. I guess we all want to see it.
Umesh Raut
Ok, so post it here. I guess we all want to see it. True, please post it here. Also, have you checked/tried Marius Silaghi's quad chamfer? (for edge chamfer and smoothness)
stefambatros
This is a 100% crop of the final result. It still has some minor bugs but the result is acceptable, given this technique saves me a loot of time.
salvador
Yep, quite clean to come out of a raster source.
