Shadow through glass - Refraction

Hey guys,

I am working on a project - an interior sign,

I got a clear acrylic backer ( box ) at 3/4" thickness with cutout letters over the backer

I am showing the sign on the interior flipped box imitating the walls etc...

I got a couple of vray lights set up , my box material has vray mat with 100% refraction enabled diffuse white etc a glass imitation sort of...,

I get the nice shadow coming on the wall however its way to strong...,

how would i doll down the shadows, refraction rollout has a check on affect shadows,

checking and unchecking this option does not make too much of a difference....

rendering method irr map and lc

any help would be appreciated...

spent 3 hours testing..., can not come up with a solution...

100 refractive transparent objects in real life do not cast shadows except for the edges...

whats going on with the vray material...

I excluded the object in light property from casting shadow , however the gi solution still casts brutal shadow....

anyone ?

thanks,

this is an interior scene...

it is the gi that is causing the problem.... and there is no control to tone it down...,

I went to object vray property and turned the gi off of the object...

it looks better the brutal dark shadow is gone,

but gone completely... I do want a bit of a shadow accent there though....

I will post a shot in a few minutes

This is driving me crazy... I am usually pretty good at figuring stuff out on my own

Just wanna add that this is rendered using ir/lc method and the render below is a straight render, thisis what I get with 100% refractive material with affect shadows on....

Can you post a shot of how it was coming out originally? Also, is that supposed to be the color of the glass? Sort of a smokey gray? Or is that a result of turning off the GI?

One trick you can try is go to your color mapping section under the V-Ray tab and try a 0.1, 0.2, or 0.3 in the dark multiplier, That will immediately reduce the darkness of shadows......

thanks guys for all the replies.

I just resolved the problem... I had unchecked in GI Caustics refractive check mark...,

after enabling the option I got the result that I was looking for..

looks great now , I will post a pic shortly..
