SketchUp -> 3dsmax -> Vray; Mapping Problem

hey.

I am working on improving with vray.. My workflow is SketchUp -> 3dsmax -> Vray.

However, my problem is that when applying materials in 3ds to my SketchUp geometry (Editable mesh), the mapping/texturing does not look how it is supposed to be. As it can be seen in my attachments, the concrete material does not seem to tile correctly.

I've read that I have to apply a UVW-Map-Modifier, but this does not solve my problem most of the time, because it seems to be guesswork, and I don't want to spend time on that..

When creating a 3ds plane as a replacement for my wall, mapping works fine.

Where is my problem?

Thanks in advance for your help and sry if the images are a little bit too dark.

It's hard to tell what your problem is with the map.

The only problems i have are when applying a map it might be of the wrong scale so i have to reset the xform of the objects and then the mapping corrects itself. Yours doesn't look out of scale though to me. It the problem in the second image that the dots aren't in straight lines?

Can you elaborate what the problem is if possible. It's obviously something to do with the model and how it's imported from Sketchup if you say when you remodel something in max the mapping is fine.

Try adding an xform modifier to the problematic object. Or select everything and reset the xform of the entire scene.

hey andy, thanks for your advise, it pointed in the right direction.

Although adding the xForm modifier did not have any effect, I managed to get to an acceptable result by changing the scale of the map; after some time I got it right.

I plan to post it in some time to the WIP-forum.. :)

If you have the use real world scale box checked in your bitmap parameters it might be causing this issue. It maps correctly on the max geometry because it automatically has uvw coordinates when it's created. This is not the case with your imported geometry although I have to believe that there is an option about assigning uvw coordinates to the geometry when it's imported. All of that said, I would check the real world mapping check box and mess around with the uvw map modifier.

I believe there is a preference setting that specifies whether or not to use real world mapping by default. I generally keep this option unchecked.
