fabiofusco
Hi guys, I've just got a brand new workstation from DELL: Precision T3600, 16Gb RAM, ATI firepro V5900 2Gb DDR5. I'm using 3D Studio Max 2012 + Vray 2.0 and when I work on files with a lot of polygons and go for a render the video card driver goes in crash and sometimes the system goes in crash too, so I've tried everything and I said EVERYTHING but nothing! Anyway I've found in some websites that the firepro V5900 drivers have issues with vray! This is very sad, but I have to work, so I'm about to buy an nVidia Quadro 2000, do you guys thing I'm doing the right thing? Thanks a lot in advance
dhammikaherath
Hi Fabio, I'm a Quadro 2000 user with Mental Ray. This is not a bad card. But you have to keep in mind this has only 1GB memory. But as my experiences when the poly count is too much (Above 2 million with view port shade on) sometimes video signals goes and comes back. But never get stuck. To be honest to get the proper use, at least you should go for a Quadro 4000. This Quadro category specially made for heavy duty long term work. But GTX series performance wise better. fabiofusco
Thank you Dhammika, I've heard about what you said...I'll think about it
Scott Schroeder
When you say go for a render, do you mean rendering or real time/viewport display? If this is an issue during rendering, that's not real time, it's not your video card. It's either too much memory, overheating, or something in your scene. fabiofusco
Yeah, it's not real time, I got this message anytime: AMD video driver has stopped working
Dimitris Tolios
Try uninstalling your Firepro drivers completely, and re-installing them. If the issue persists, try downloading an older version of the driver, and clean-installing this one.
fabiofusco
Hi, Dimitris, you know what? I did it already...also I've asked autodesk, they gave me an old driver version which is certified, but nothing! That sucks man, you know
Dimitris Tolios
What can I say...too many AMD graphic card problems lately in these forums - even with older/proven cards...I am confused... Thing is, the V5900 is supposed to be better than the Quadro 2000...actually it was a 4000 competitor, outperforming the latter in many aspects, so in reality there should be no contest picking between the two actually... I have never heard issues with VRay + a GPU also...not talking VRay RT GPU ofc. But the hard fact is that you have issues... I would try to re-install the drivers and even the 3DS/VRay too, but if nothing would work - well - maybe you should try to replace the card if it is under warranty, but if not I would understand you switching to another brand/model. fabiofusco
Hi, I've tried it already, but nothing changed; I've also modified the responding time of the video card, by adding an hotkey in the register. Anyway, fortunately a friend of mine has a Quadro 2000 to give it to me to try it on my workstation, so I'll see if that will be a good solution for me. Dell's technical support will not change my card because, they said, I have issues only on 3ds max + vray
jonathanlester
Fabio, I know this is an old thread, but when I was having difficulties with my V5900, as I kept updating the video drivers from their website, i reviewed the drivers on autodesk and found out that there is only one driver for that card that has been certified by Autodesk. this driver [FirePro_8.83.5.4_Win7x64_119550] doen not have any problems with max or cad 2012. i would suggest always refer to autodesk certified drivers listing to make sure the driver you are using is the correct one. When the newer drivers were used all my tools would move from #2 monitor back to #1 when the video was worked hard. there were other issues; rolling over AEC objects, they would appear white lined and would rotate randomly (only the white ghosted lines) around all axis. Some of the properties, specifically, the scrolling numbers would randomly change when the mouse would come near the up / down buttons. if you do convert back to older driver, don't use windows, and i would suggest installing team viewer on two computers. when I did this i had to uninstall both the driver and catalyst controller, the screen would black out and leave high contrasting lines from other windows. I couldn't see anyting. i had to use my laptop with team viewer to install the video driver. hope you figured out your issue.
